It is a difficult issue when tacking into the wind for there is little or no margin for balance.

I think that this is an unfortunate, but nevertheless a very human position. Some say it makes for robust debate. I say it makes for a rocky journey when seeking balance.

But I'm also aware that not everyone wishes to reach the balance point and that's the pivotal human issue. When someone wants to rock the boat, the others just have to put up with the perturbation.

Catchya laterBlogger In Middle-earthhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08722634477041121797noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2107060758629396184.post-62042481336235949822009-05-26T12:20:13.290-07:002009-05-26T12:20:13.290-07:00Greetings from Oregon,

Technology (scrolls, books, laptops, Internet) continues to reshape culture and how people accomplish community-related practices; so, I find it's always a challenge to take a really positive or negative view on this topic since each new technological innovation creates a "new normal" for different demographics, especially in our century. Even though I cannot imagine one arguing against the benefits of the book, I think setting up a polemic like McGreal does can sometimes be an interesting exercise as we try to think more critically about some of the aspects of technology that end up having adverse effects on certain types of individuals, age groups, communities or cultures--"not all things good are beneficial" the saying goes.

Great tie in w/the mention of how your "community-produced" book helped support your local community--enjoyed that story.

ChrisChrishttp://blogs.oregonstate.edu/instructionaldesign/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2107060758629396184.post-81541715960176240972009-05-25T03:49:48.004-07:002009-05-25T03:49:48.004-07:00Tēnā koe e Bonnie!
